This recipe is adapted from a Milo Slice recipe on Best Recipes. It makes a great afternoon tea for kids, is easy to prepare and has the texture of a lovely dense, chewy muesli bar. It also freezes well.
Ingredients
1/2 cup plain flour
1/2 cup self-raising flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
2/3 cup desiccated coconut
1/2 cup firm-packed brown sugar
1 cup milo
1 egg whisked
125g butter melted
Instructions
1. Mix together all the dry ingredients.
2. Add in the melted butter and egg and stir well.
3. Press into a greased / lined slice tray.
4. Bake in a 180 degree oven for 15-20 mins.

Oh YUM! The husband will be into this as he is a dedicated Milo-holic. I’ve got a similar recipe involving WeetBix. The hard part is not to eat it all at once lol
There’s something very nostalgic about Milo. We’re making it again today and this time we’re adding choc-chips. Gets a little unhealthier each time round…!
And more delicious! There is a slice my sister makes and she calls it “Death by Chocolate”. She sent me the recipe and I recall thinking – could there be a sweeter demise? I commend your exploration and isn’t it grand to live in one of the countries where they sell Milo….I feel very sorry for folk like those in the US who cannot access it easily:( I’ve always thoguht it should be dropped in – a sort of Milo Aid lol
I had to look up Milo -I’ve never heard of it. I don’t think we have it in Canada.
Milo is a chocolate malt drinking powder that’s mixed with milk. It’s one of those things like vegemite, tim-tams or weet-bix that’s unique to Australia and quite iconic! I think the Milo could be substituted with Ovaltine or any other other chocolate powder in this recipe.
Oh, ok! I might just give this a try. I had a to tam for the first time this week, too – I found them in the grocery store.
How convenient! I have all of those ingredients in my pantry and 2 hungry teenagers. Take care, BAM
With two hungry teenagers these won’t last a minute! Hope you enjoy.
Congrats! You have been nominated for a Sunshine award…follow the link… http://pantryobsession.wordpress.com/2012/11/15/a-sunshine-blog-award/
Awww thanks!
OOh, Milo sounds yummy!
I think it’s best with a big glass of cold milk or sprinkled on vanilla ice-cream!
I am so glad someone else asked the question. The recipe looks very yummy but what is milo?
On the Milo tin it’s described as an energy food drink made from malted barley. I think it tastes a little like chocolate and wheat, with the dry and crunchy texture of instant coffee. I’ve never realised how strange it sounds until now…
Thank you! I am sure we have the same product here but will have to research what name it goes by. I love learning new things! ~Thea
Oh yum! I have a hungry teenager here too. I’ll be making it today!
